Why The Dendera Gazette Exists.
The Dendera Gazette began with something I have come to understand deeply: sometimes we need somewhere for our truth to live.
When I began writing my own story, I felt an overwhelming need to release my truth—to take the experiences, memories, pain, lessons, and pieces of myself that I had carried for years and finally give them somewhere to exist outside of me. That journey eventually became the beginning of SNO Publishing.
But somewhere along the way, I realized that stories are much bigger than books.
They live in conversations around kitchen tables. They live in photographs tucked away in drawers, businesses someone built from nothing, recipes passed through generations, music that takes us back home, memories shared between friends, and the names of people we refuse to allow the world to forget. Our stories live in the communities we create and in the ways we choose to remember one another.
I also found myself missing something from home: a sense of community. I missed the feeling that people knew one another, that stories traveled from person to person, and that there were places where life happened together. At the same time, I began imagining what it might look like to create a different kind of community—one where people could arrive as themselves, find others who understand them, explore, learn, heal, create, laugh, remember, and belong without carrying so many of the stigmas and expectations that often follow us through the world outside.
Then my grandmother passed away.
There was no obituary for her.
That absence stayed with me. A life had been lived. A person had been loved. Memories existed because she existed, and I wanted there to be somewhere that acknowledged that.
So I created one.
That became the first version of The Dendera Gazette.
This is actually my second attempt at building both SNO Publishing and The Dendera Gazette. I don’t know what Dendera will look like by the time you find this page. I hope that one day it becomes everything I have dreamed it could be, but I also believe there is something meaningful about allowing you to see it while it is still becoming.
Below you will find the spaces we have imagined for The Dendera Gazette. Depending on when you arrive during our journey, you may discover rooms that have been fully curated and filled with stories, resources, memories, and life. You may also encounter spaces still waiting for the substance they truly deserve.
That is intentional.
We would rather allow a space to grow with meaning than fill it simply because it is empty.
So whether you have arrived when Dendera is only beginning to take root or years from now when its branches have grown farther than I can currently imagine, thank you for being here. Thank you for reading, exploring, remembering, contributing, and growing alongside us.
